Equal Pay Day marks the ongoing struggle for gender pay equity, highlighting the disparity between men’s and women’s earnings. Originating in the United States in 1996, the National Committee on Pay Equity established this observance to symbolize how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year. Since its inception, Equal Pay Day has expanded globally, with various countries adopting their own dates to raise awareness and advocate for fair wages, addressing systemic biases and promoting policies that ensure equal pay for equal work.
